Adding a Firewall Rule to a SSD Cloud VPS

In this guide we will show how to add a firewall rule for ICMP request (pings) to your server

  1. Access the server: Go to the SSD Cloud VPS for which you want to add a firewall rule
  2. Find the firewall location: In the navigation panel, select "Network" followed by "Firewall". You can refer to the screenshots provided below for visual guidance.

  3. Add a firewall rule: Select on of the following methods below to add a firewall rule.

    Note: You may need to restart your server for changes to take effect.


    • Method 1: Block All incoming ICMP requests.

      To block ICMP requests head to the Options tab. Then select REJECT or DROP in the Input Policy drop box. These settings will not allow any ICMP requests to the server.

    • Method 2: Block All incoming ICMP requests EXCEPT allowed IPs.
      1. Select the Rules tab followed by selecting Add a new rule.
      2. Select ICMP echo request under the Macro drop box. Then select REJECT or DROP in the Action box.
      3. Save this rule then create another rule.
      4. This time select ICMP echo request then under Action and choose ACCEPT. Under Source / Port input the IP that you allow to ping this server.

  4. Complete: you have successfully added a firewall rule to your server.

Note: You may need to restart your server for changes to take effect.
